PITCHING IN SOUTHERN LEAGUE DIVISION ONE CENTRAL | FINAL WEEKEND REVIEW

The latest action

The final weekend of the Pitching In Southern League Division One Central season brought plenty of drama.

It was all eyes on the title race as leaders, Biggleswade Town, fell behind early on in their home game against Ware as Theophilus Ofori found the net. The scoreline remained the same until midway through the second half when four goals in just over 20 minutes, from Luke Andrews, JJ Lacey, who hit two, and Harry Draper, saw them confirm top spot.

Second-place Bedford Town did their job by beating North Leigh without too much trouble. Liam Dulson, Ryan Blake and Leon Lobjolt put them in command at the break before Lobjolt added a fourth in the second period to complete a 4-0 victory.

AFC Dunstable finished in third place as second half goals from Enrico Greco, Sean Duodu, who bagged a brace, and Bruce Ovbiye Nsang gave them a convincing 4-0 triumph over Barton Rovers, whilst just below them, Waltham Abbey beat Thame United 3-2 to send the visitors down.

Having raced into a two-goal lead within the opening seven minutes through Jason Hallett and Aaron Eyoma, the home side looked in control until Harry Alexander reduced the arrears. Eyoma grabbed another before the break and although the evergreen Jefferson Louis pulled another back for the away team, it was too little, too late.

Survival was secured for Aylesbury United as Brayden Daniels’ goal was enough to overcome Biggleswade FC.

Just missing out on the play-offs were Cirencester Town who ended the season with a convincing 3-0 victory over Welwyn Garden City. Felix Miles set them on their way and Nicholas Peare added a second before the break before Luca Robinson added a third at the end.

There were 2-0 home wins for Kidlington and Stotfold. Josh Davis and Jack Smith scored in each half as Hertford Town succumbed at Kidlington, whilst leading scorer, Henry Snee, and Lewis Franklin were on the scoresheet as Stotfold ended a solid first campaign at this level with victory over Leighton Town.

The game at Hadley was abandoned due to a cardiac arrest for Kempston Rovers goalkeeper, Jack Marshall, to whom we send our very best wishes for a speedy recovery. We also send our appreciation to the medical staff who looked after him so well and all involved for the way in which this serious situation was handled.
