As expected, the play-off semi-finals across all four of our divisions proved to be hard-fought affairs.
There was just one of the games that went all the way to penalties and that was in the Pitching In Southern League Division One Central, where Waltham Abbey prospered 8-7 on spot-kicks after their clash at AFC Dunstable had finished 3-3 at the end of extra-time.
“Honestly, it was one of the maddest games that I have ever played in,” Jason Hallett told us, “It was one of those that could have gone either way; AFC Dunstable are a really good side, but I think that over the course of the whole game we had the better chances.
“Our fans were unreal all night and they certainly made the difference when we had to dig deep. Hopefully we’ll get a good following at Bedford on Monday because we are going to need them.
“We played Bedford away a few weeks ago and got a 1-0 win, so we know what we have to do, but it’s going to be extremely tough.
“But as a group we’re really looking forward to it. Waltham Abbey is my boyhood club, I grew up there and have so many friends both inside and outside of the club, so I know how much it would mean for us to get a result on Monday.”
