Frome Town shook off the disappointment of missing out on the Pitching In Southern League Division One South title by earning promotion via the play-offs.
They were pushed all of the way in the final by a Bristol Manor Farm outfit who took the lead before finally succumbing to a 3-1 defeat.
“It’s about time we secured promotion,” defender, Warren Maidment, told his club’s media with a smile. “We were beaten by Bristol Manor Farm in the semi-final a couple of years ago, so it felt like we owed them one for that.
“They gave us a really tough game on the final day of the regular season, so we knew going into this one what to expect and how difficult they would make life for us, but at the same time we also knew that we could score goals against them.
“We are just delighted that we were able to get the job done. It’s been a long season with so many games, but it’s all been worth it in the end.
“I feel that our experience of two years ago helped us on this occasion. Since then, we’ve also been able to add players who have been in this situation before and some who have played at higher levels, so we always felt that we had a great chance to go up this time.
“It was all about being able to perform on the day and despite falling being, we did that.
“I must say that our supporters really played their part. The crowds here have been fantastic and improved as the season has gone on. The Bristol Manor Farm fans also played their part in creating what was a great atmosphere.”
For Maidment, he has been a regular in the back-line this term having seen injury halt his progress during the previous season.
“I have been really happy with the minutes that I have played this season,” he added. “As I say, all of the blood, sweat and tears have been well worth it.
“There is so much character in this dressing room and we all feed off that. I have quality players all around me and I am delighted with the contribution that I have been able to make to get this club into Step 3.”
We congratulate Frome Town on promotion and send our commiserations to Bristol Manor Farm.
