Community Day a real success for the Ducks

Aylesbury United scored a success with its second annual Community Day, which took place at their home game against Ware in the Pitching In Southern League Division One Central last month and drew their biggest home League crowd for more than a decade.

Free entry was provided to all, supported by the generosity of club sponsors, attracting many fans who weren’t even born the last time the team played a home game in Aylesbury.

In addition, the club’s charity partner, Youth Concern, raised more than £300 through a raffle, and the club’s pan-disability section generated almost £200 from their cake sale. Other activities for supporters included face-painting, a paper aeroplane competition, and half-time crossbar challenge.

The Community Day was initially proposed by the Supporters’ Trust, 21st Century Ducks, as a way of strengthening the club’s position within the community, and encouraging the growing population of the town to support the club, even when the men’s first-team continues to play outside Aylesbury.

Bob Moody, Managing Director at Aylesbury United, said: “The club’s place at the heart of our community is a crucial part of our proposal to return to Aylesbury, and days like this demonstrate the deep foundation of support and goodwill that exists towards the club – and the huge opportunity that awaits once the club returns to its rightful place in town.”

David Brown, Head of Commercial at Aylesbury United, added: “We’re very grateful to all the local organisations that stepped forward to make the Community Day a reality.

“Fostering relationships with local businesses, raising our profile, and helping them to engage with the local community through the club is another vital facet of enabling us to Bring the Ducks Home.”
