It was a memorable end to the season for Leamington as they edged past AFC Telford United in the Pitching In Southern League Premier Central play-off final to secure an instant return to the Vanarama National League North.
“To be able to help the club get back to where it belongs is an amazing feeling,” Henry Landers told us. “Being able to do it in the first season following relegation makes it even sweeter.
“I think that the play-off final was always going to be decided by a single goal, but having said that, we were the better of the two teams and deserved our win in the end.
“From a personal point of view, I didn’t quite hit the numbers that I was hoping for; I know that I should have scored more goals, but my main aim was to help this team achieve promotion, and we did that!
“The Premier Central is such a tough League. It was a very open race for the title and to make the play-offs. Every game presented its own challenges and there were a lot of local derbies too which added to the mix.
“As I say, to get back up at the first attempt was a real achievement.”
Landers made a little bit of history himself during the season as his first half hat-trick against St. Ives Town in December was the first time a Brakes’ player had achieved such a feat since Mark Bellingham – father of Jude – did the same back in 2008.
