Stourbridge have made a statement of intent with the appointment of Liam McDonald as manager on a two-year deal.
The Pitching In Southern League Premier Central club were able to lure McDonald from neighbours, Rushall Olympic, where he guided the club to Step 2 for the first time in their history via the play-offs at the end of the 2022/23 season and successfully maintained their position at this level during the course of this term.
“It was a hard decision to leave Rushall because the club has a very special place in my heart for what we achieved during my time there,” McDonald told us. “But, sometimes in football, things come to a natural conclusion, and the time was right to move on.
“This is a project that excites me. There is a lot of work to be done, but it’s going to be an exciting journey.
“I live in the town so I know all about the potential that this club has. Hopefully my staff and I can be the ones to realise it and get the club moving in the right direction.
“To do that we need the supporters with us and I want to build a strong affiliation with the fans and give them the success that they deserve.”
The Glassboys’ Chairman, Andy Pountney, added: “Liam’s record over the past six-and a-half years at Rushall Olympic has been tremendous and there is no doubt he was the number one choice on our list as our new manager.
“His previous work at Redditch, Hednesford and Solihull too had not gone unnoticed and there is no doubt that his style of football and experience was a very important part of our decision.
“We are excited that he has decided to join us and we are all looking forward to the new adventure we are about to embark on. We believe that Liam will be the man who can get us back up the league and pushing for a place in the play offs and hopefully more in time to come.
“I know from our conversations over the last week that Liam is looking forward to his challenge and bringing his exciting brand of football to the club.”
