YATE TOWN | BIT BY BIT

Manager, Darren Mullings, reflects upon the 2023/24 season

When Darren Mullings took over at the helm of Yate Town, the club was in the doldrums.

Just one point from their opening four Pitching In Southern League Division One South games saw the hangover continue from the previous campaign when they were relegated.

But after guiding them to their first League win of the season in his first game in charge, their fortunes began to steadily improve.

“It was a challenge that I took on with relish and determination,” Mullings told his club’s media. “I went into it with my eyes wide open; there was a lot of work to be done and I knew that it would take time.

“Bit-by-bit we started to implement things and I always had the belief that the results would follow. We built our style of play and tried to bring extra professionalism on and off-the-pitch.

“It all started to come together nicely and just three defeats from our final 20 games proves this.

“We were able to add that extra bit of quality and the other players thrived and grew off the new faces that we were able to bring in at the turn of the year.

“It was a fantastic run of results in the second half of the season but ultimately, we just fell short of making the play-offs, finishing eighth.”

Mullings’ work was rewarded with a two-year deal and his preparations for the new season are already underway.

“This deal will give the club some stability,” he added. “We’ve put down some solid foundations and everything is moving in the right direction.

“We want to keep building and adding to what we have done; with everyone pulling in the same direction, we can get to where we want to be.

“I will be looking to hit the ground running for the new season and that means working hard with our preparations.”
