With the thrills and spills of the 2023/24 season now over, we have asked supporters from across our four divisions to share their thoughts on the campaign.
Thank you to everyone who has taken part...
NAME | Felix Houseman
CLUB | Hendon FC – Pitching In Southern League Premier South
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN FOLLOWING YOUR CLUB AND HOW DID YOUR SUPPORT FIRST BEGIN? | I have been following club for a couple of years. All my mates support different teams (I am a Leeds United fan by birth), and we wanted to all watch football together, so one day we decided to find a local non-League side to watch and since then we have followed Hendon home and away alongside our ‘bigger’ clubs.
HOW MANY OF THIS SEASON’S GAMES WERE YOU ABLE TO ATTEND? | About 20 or so League games plus a couple of pre-season and Cup fixtures. It has been a tricky season due to upcoming exams and various small illnesses along the way, whilst also visiting some new EFL and non-League grounds and watching Leeds.
WHICH OF YOUR TEAM’S PLAYERS HAVE MOST STOOD OUT FOR YOU OVER THE COURSE OF THE SEASON AND WHY? | Our midfielders, Billy Leonard and Blaise Riley-Snow, have been fantastic signings and have started pretty much every game this season. Our forwards, Niko Muir and Joe White, both played at National League and pro level, have been fantastic as well and scored the goals in our famous victory over Oldham Athletic in the Isuzu FA Trophy.
WHICH GAME MOST STANDS OUT FROM THIS SEASON AND WHY? | Oldham Athletic 1-2 Hendon, by a mile. It was good playing Wealdstone again in a proper competitive game, but nothing could top our day out at Oldham in which we scored a 90+6 minute winner to send our 230 travelling fans mental.
WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR FAVOURITE AWAY GROUND TO VISIT AND WHY? | Again, continuing with the theme of Oldham, it has to be Boundary Park, although Salisbury do have a fantastic set-up for Step 3, with a massive terrace behind one goal. It’s just a shame we were on the wrong side of a 2-1 scoreline in that one!
HOW DID THE SEASON COMPARE TO YOUR HOPES DURING THE SUMMER? | The 2023/24 season completely exceeded my expectations. After the previous season’s precarious 19th place finish, to get 58 points and also reach the fifth round Isuzu FA Trophy, defeating three professional clubs along the way, including one ex-Premier League outfit, was unreal. We could have given a better account of ourselves in the Emirates FA Cup, but other than that, it was some season!
