Having established himself as one of the most reliable and consistent goalkeepers in the Pitching In Southern League Premier Central over the course of last term, Redditch United’s Adam Harrison is looking forward to working closely with new Reds’ boss, Tim Flowers.
Harrison made a total of 51 appearances in all competitions during the 2023/24 season and will now come under the wing of Flowers, who was an FA Premier League winner with Blackburn Rovers as well as earning 11 England caps.
“To have a former goalkeeper as manager here is exciting,” Harrison told us. “But the fact that he is also someone who has played at the very highest level makes it even better!
“I have no doubt whatsoever that he will help me develop my game and I am really looking forward to working closely with him.
“Last season was a good one for me; to end with 19 clean sheers from 51 games isn’t a bad return. I also picked up a few Man of the Match awards along the way, so I was pleased with the progress that I made.
“As a group, our target going into the season was to make the play-offs and we achieved that, it‘s just a pity that we couldn’t get it over the line with promotion.
“The dressing room was really good and to go from finishing eighth the previous season to fourth last term was a big achievement and credit to everyone involved; it’s something that we’re now looking to build upon under the new Gaffer.
“There were some surprises over the course of the season just gone. Needham Market winning the title, Hitchin Town going down and then getting a reprieve, Nuneaton Borough going bust, Mickleover’s points deduction going into the final game and, recently, Coalville Town’s resignation.
“This League was full of drama and results that you wouldn’t expect. It provides great entertainment for the fans and I also feel that the standard of player has definitely got better.”
Harrison is steeped in goalkeeping. As well as his day job as a special needs teacher, he also has his own goalkeeper glove business, SwazTech Gloves, something that he has worked hard to build up and is extremely passionate about.
“I enjoy seeing goalkeepers at all levels of the game wearing the gloves,” he added. “There are five in our League wearing them, which is great, and I’ve had some really good feedback.”
