FAN FILE | COLIN DAVIES – WIMBORNE TOWN

We get the thoughts of the fans on the season just gone...

With the thrills and spills of the 2023/24 season now over, we have asked supporters from across our four divisions to share their thoughts on the campaign.

Thank you to everyone who has taken part...

NAME | Colin Davies

CLUB | Wimborne Town – Pitching In Southern League Division One South

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN FOLLOWING YOUR CLUB AND HOW DID YOUR SUPPORT FIRST BEGIN? | I have been following the club for 25 years now. I bumped into the then Chairman, Ken Stewart, at a local game and he persuaded me to come along and watch Wimborne and I’ve not looked back since!

HOW MANY OF THIS SEASON’S GAMES WERE YOU ABLE TO ATTEND? | I was able to get to over 30 games in 2023/24.

WHICH OF YOUR TEAM’S PLAYERS HAVE MOST STOOD OUT FOR YOU OVER THE COURSE OF THE SEASON AND WHY? | That would have to be Billy Walker. There aren’t many better central defenders at this level; he doesn’t lose any battles or headers and also pops up with the odd goal too.

WHICH GAME MOST STANDS OUT FROM THIS SEASON AND WHY? | The game at Melksham Town on the final day of the season in which we finally sealed the League title, at the third time of trying! To fall behind early on and also find out that Frome Town were winning, it would have been easy for our heads to drop, but the team didn’t give in and managed to turn things around for a memorable 3-1 win. There were over 700 of our fans at the game, which was fantastic, and Melksham were superb hosts.

WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR FAVOURITE AWAY GROUND TO VISIT AND WHY? | Mousehole was a fabulous trip. Great community club with lovely fans; a weekend to remember.

HOW DID THE SEASON COMPARE TO YOUR HOPES DURING THE SUMMER? | The objective was promotion, but the twists and turns along the way made for a fantastic season. To see our fan base continue to increase was amongst many positives from a campaign in which Frome Town pushed us all of the way, so fair play to them too.
