Tiverton Town’s planning for the new season has received a boost with the news that Matt Britton has agreed a new deal at the Pitching In Southern League Premier South club.
The 29 year-old has become a popular figure both on and off-the-pitch since his arrival at the Ian Moorcroft Stadium two years ago, and has also worn the captain’s armband on a number of occasions during this time.
“I am pleased to get things sorted so I can focus on being ready for the season ahead,” he told us. “Last season was a bit stop-start for me personally; I picked up a couple of niggling injuries which disrupted my momentum.
“I was able to overcome this and play my part in those crucial final couple of months of the season as we got the points requited to keep us in the League.
“For the club, it was a big achievement to avoid relegation, particularly as there was a lot going on off-the-field throughout the year, which proved to be a bit of a distraction.
“But now things have settled down and I am really looking forward to what 2024/25 holds in store.
“It’s going to be another tough challenge; there are some top teams in this League with good budgets which makes it more difficult every season.
“Chesham United were deserved winners last season, they have been challenging for a few years, whilst, for me, AFC Totton were the best team we came up against and I am sure that they will be up there again during the campaign ahead.
“We’ll hopefully be challenging at the right end of the table and can make a positive impact.”
