With the thrills and spills of the 2023/24 season now over, we have asked supporters from across our four divisions to share their thoughts on the campaign.
Thank you to everyone who has taken part...
NAME | Adi Rose
CLUB | AFC Totton – Pitching In Southern League Premier South
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN FOLLOWING YOUR CLUB AND HOW DID YOUR SUPPORT FIRST BEGIN? | RC: I’ve been following the club since the age of 10, as my brother had played for the reserves back in the Wessex League days, however, I have been watching full-time from the summer of 2014.
HOW MANY OF THIS SEASON’S GAMES WERE YOU ABLE TO ATTEND? | I only missed one in all competitions (Didcot Town at home) and the same as last season when I missed Wincanton at home on the Emirates FA Cup.
WHICH OF YOUR TEAM’S PLAYERS HAVE MOST STOOD OUT FOR YOU OVER THE COURSE OF THE SEASON AND WHY? | Adam Tomasso. I think he’s played in several different positions very, very well over the course of the season and has always carried out whatever has been asked of him. Adam is always tenacious, driven and willing to put his body on the line to either win the ball back or block shots. With the unexpected injury to Mike Carter (club captain), I think Adam deputised in the midfield fantastically.
WHICH GAME MOST STANDS OUT FROM THIS SEASON AND WHY? | That’s a difficult one, but I’ll have to go with our game at Walton & Hersham where we were two goals down going into injury time but managed to get a point from a 2-2 draw! Matty Burrows’ goal was a sight to behold. He showed a bit of wizardry on the wing to beat two players and then cut inside and smashed one in off the bar from 20+ yards! It was just awesome, especially given the circumstances of the game.
WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR FAVOURITE AWAY GROUND TO VISIT AND WHY? | That’s probably got to be Merthyr Town. Just a club steeped in history with a proper ‘old school’ football ground. Nice big stands, big terrace behind one of the goals and usually a friendly reception and respect of making the ‘long’ journey there.
HOW DID THE SEASON COMPARE TO YOUR HOPES DURING THE SUMMER? | I’m not afraid to admit that I would’ve settled for an upper mid-table finish with a view to kicking on in 2024/25 - quite clearly the team have surpassed that and so I’m absolutely chuffed, even though we ultimately fell at the play-off hurdle.
