Thatcham Town are gearing up for life in the Pitching In Southern League Division One South.
The Berkshire outfit have been moved across from the Isthmian League where they finished eighth in the South Central Division last season.
For manager, Yashwa Romeo, it’s a step into the unknown that he is looking forward to.
“I am buzzing for the challenge, to be honest,” he told us. “Yes, it’s a step into the unknown for us, but that just makes it that little bit more exciting.
“There will be some long trips and, having played in this League before, I know that every game will be a real battle.
“Last season we finished eighth, which was progress from 13th the previous year, so things are moving in the right direction and hopefully this will continue into the Southern League.
“I won’t talk about how we play as I don’t want to give anything away! We’ll be an unknown quantity for a lot of our opponents, particularly early on in the campaign.”
Romeo was appointed into the Kingfishers’ hot-seat in March 2022 for his first managerial role having previously led the forward line for the likes of Maidenhead United, Marlow, Slough Town, Reading City and Northwood.
“I’ve played for managers from Step 2 to Step 5, so you do pick up a lot of things along the way both consciously and sub-consciously,” he added. “I have tried to use it in my two and-a-half years in this role, which is my first as manager.
“Looking to the season ahead, there are sure to be ups and downs, highs and lows along the way. With anything in life, you should always look to improve, so if we can finish within the top seven or eight, I will be happy.”
We welcome Thatcham Town into the Southern League family.
