Positive close season ahead of Southern League return

Pre-season training has got underway at Gloucester City this week as the club prepares for life back in the Southern League.

For manager, Mike Cook, it’s been a positive close season as he plots to turn the club’s fortunes around following relegation at the end of last term.

“We’re almost there in terms of the squad,” he admitted. “We’ll be having a look at a few trialists over the weeks ahead but we’ll be operating with a core group of 15 or 16 this season, most of whom are now in place.

“The lads are buying in to what we are trying to achieve here; they’ve come with a positive mindset and now the task is to build the team ethos and get them to gel ready for the start of the season.

“I welcome the pressure and expectation on our shoulders as it gives us a healthy frame of mind. We know that there is a lot of hard work ahead and it’s also going to take patience as things come together.

“But we’re confident that we will get to where we want to be in readiness for the season kicking off in August.

“We’re going into a competitive League and as a collective, we’re relishing the challenge that this will bring.”

We welcome Gloucester City back in to the Southern League family.
