WINCHESTER CITY | EXCITING NEW ERA

Plenty of positivity as ground works start to take shape

It’s the dawning of an exciting new era for Winchester City FC. Extensive works at their Charters Community Stadium home will not only see a 3G playing surface laid, but also improvements to the surrounds.

The improvements will increase the community reach of the Pitching In Southern League Premier South club as they continue to make big strides both on and off-the-pitch.

Last season they finished 11th, with their midtable berth a step up from the previous campaign where they found themselves in the lower reaches of the table.

“There’s been a lot of work going on at the stadium since the end of April,” said Club Director, Stuart Munro. “The new LED floodlights are now in place, as are the dug-outs, whilst the fencing around the ground is almost complete.

“Work is ongoing with the new pitch, the hard corner standing and tarmacking. We’re on schedule and pleased with the progress that is being made. It’s exciting to see it all starting to take shape.

“It’s been a long process; it’s taken us a good three or four years to get to this point, but with the help of the local council and Football Foundation, we are almost there!

“This development has given us great traction with existing and new sponsors. They can see the benefits of it being in use on a daily basis by the local community and how this project will take the club forward.

“A couple of new sponsors have recently come on board and we’ve got an exciting partnership which is about to be announced that will really help to support the club and community going forward, so it’s all very exciting in that respect.

“We’ve gone about our business in re-signing players and adding to our squad in a quiet and efficient manner. We’ve been pleased with the players that we’ve been able to retain and also, we’ve added a few new faces in certain areas, with a couple more still to come.

“It’s going to be a tough season ahead, there’s no doubt about that. The three clubs who have come down will be competitive, they are big clubs and will be determined to bounce back straight away.

“The local clubs will all be up there too, but we’ll do what we do. We’ve got our targets, but they will remain within the club.

“We’re quietly confident that we can have a good season; if we can improve on 11th then that will be great. We are ready for the challenge that lies ahead and the start of what are exciting times for the club within our local community.”
