KETTERING TOWN | THE REBUILD

Big changes for the season ahead at the Poppies

Kettering Town manager, Richard Lavery, has admitted that he has spoken to over 100 players during the summer as he looks to rebuild the Poppies’ squad.

The former assistant manager became the club’s fourth manager of last season when he was appointed into the hot-seat in February 2024 and guided the club to a 15th-place finish during what was a difficult campaign as they adjusted to life in the Pitching In Southern League Premier Central following relegation at the end of the previous season.

“We had to change things around,” he told his club’s media. “So, we’ve brought a whole new bunch of players in, apart from probably three or four.

“It’s early days, of course, but things are looking good so far. I’ve spoken to well over 100 players since last season came to a close. If I’m being honest, I thought it would be a bit easier to bring players in here, but we’re up against a lot of clubs who all have similar ambitions to ourselves in what is a strong division.

“The spine of the team is looking good; there will be players coming in and going out over the weeks ahead, but I am happy with where we’re at.

“The lads look fit and hungry, which is what I and the supporters want to see. It will be a totally different team to last season in terms of the energy and quality that we have.

“Hopefully the hard work will pay off and we can enjoy a successful season.”
