The Southern League fixtures are announced on Friday and things are starting to get real for Helston Athletic.
The Cornish outfit will take their place in Division One South for the first-ever time and midfielder, Tyler Elliott, will be part of history in the making as he looks to put his higher-level experience to good use.
“I am just excited to get going now,” he told us. “We’ve got a few pre-season games under our belt and with the fixtures released on Friday, we just want to get out there and see what we can do at this level.
“We’ve lost a couple of key players and recruited a few to fill the voids, so it will be interesting to see how we perform.
“There’ll be a step up in quality from the Western League, that’s for sure. I’ve seen some of the signings that have been made in this League over the summer and there is no doubt that it will be tough, but we are ready for the challenge.
“I’ve enjoyed getting back into the swing of things over the past few weeks. I’ve got minutes into the legs and I’m feeling fit.
“We’re gelling together as a group all of the time and working hard on patterns of play, which I am sure will all come together in time for when the season gets underway.
“I am just looking to have a consistent season in terms of minutes on the pitch and performance levels. If I can do that, it will help the team adapt to the demands of this level and if we can build on the momentum of last season, there’s no reason why we can’t be up there challenging.”
Elliott spent a number of years at Tavistock AFC as well as also turning out for the likes of Plymouth Parkway and Tiverton Town prior to his switch to Kellaway Park.
