Football fans of a certain age often lament the loss of the Saturday Evening Sports Paper.
It was part of the matchday routine, a staple of Saturday tea-times up and down the UK, as football fans would head to their local newsagents to pick up a copy, hot off the press.
Combining all of the afternoon’s results and reports with latest news and features, it was the perfect read to round up all of the day’s action and was as much a part of Saturday nights as Match of the Day or a takeaway!
We can announce that the Southern League will be resurrecting this concept for the 2024/25 season, but with a modern twist.
The Pitching In Southern League Saturday Evening E-newspaper will contain match reports from EVERY Southern League game that day, plus all of the vital results and statistics, fascinating features and latest news.
It will be available as a FREE download by 6.45pm each and every Saturday evening throughout the season ahead, starting on Saturday, August 10th 2024.
“As someone who was brought up on the Sports Argus and Sporting Star, I have always been fascinated by this concept,” said Southern League Media Manager, Andy Poole. “I feel that a publication of this kind still has a place in the modern game in an online, downloadable format.
“It’s a big project; we aim to have match reports from all games across our four divisions and combine it with all the latest statistics and features which showcase all that is good from the Southern League.
“We are pioneering this kind of offering for our 87 member clubs as we provide in-depth, top-quality coverage on the personalities and clubs that make this League what it is.
