LOWESTOFT TOWN | THE JOURNEY AHEAD

Popular manager, Jamie Godbold, is ready to embrace the challenge ahead

Lowestoft Town are gearing themselves up for quite a journey over the course of the campaign ahead.

Having claimed the Isthmian League Division One North title at the end of last term, they have been placed in the Pitching In Southern League Premier Central for 2024/25.

“Based on our previous season in this League, our home form was by far better than our away form,” admitted manager, Jamie Godbold, a veteran of 500 appearances for the club as a player. “There’s a lot of distance to be covered throughout the season; we will be a lot of teams’ furthest journey, so first and foremost we want to make our home ground a fortress and make it a difficult place to come to.

“Recruitment is always our biggest challenge based on our location and the travelling involved, but I’m confident we will have a competitive squad come August 10th.

“Training and pre-season games have gone well so far and the players look in good shape. We see this as a great opportunity to test ourselves against some quality teams at some new grounds.

“My teams will always be full of energy and athleticism with technically-good footballers. Of course, we want to be successful by playing attacking and exciting football, but we realise that there will be times at this level where we will have to dig in to grind out results.

“Ultimately, our aim is to enjoy the experience and win as many games as we can along the way.”

After spending four years as an apprentice and young professional at Stoke City, Godbold then joined hometown club, Lowestoft Town, and went on to become one of the club’s most-respected and popular players over the next 13 years.

He took his first steps into management with Kirkley & Pakefield, AFC Sudbury and Wroxham before returning home during the summer of 2018.
Godbold leads his side into the new season with an opening day home encounter with Redditch United on Saturday, August 10th.
