MERTHYR TOWN | DREAM DEBUT

Kane Simpson has wasted little time in making his mark at his new club

You could say that Kane Simpson has made an instant impact at Merthyr Town.

The talented front-runner departed Frome Town after helping them secure promotion to embrace a new challenge at their now Pitching In Southern League Premier South rivals.

The opening day of the season saw the Welsh club hit Tiverton Town for six with Simpson and strike partner, Ricardo Rees, both helping themselves to hat-tricks.

They were able to follow up the victory with a 2-0 away with at Simpson’s former club, Frome, on Tuesday evening.

“As far as debuts go I couldn’t have asked for a better one,” Simpson told us. “The first goal is always the hardest to get, but to get three goals and three points was a dream!

“Every player was exceptional, with the subs included in that. We carried out the game plan exactly as requested and were ruthless in front of goal.

“We were able to take that into Tuesday’s game and added another good win.

“I’ve settled in well here; the rest of the lads have really welcomed me and the relationships are growing the more we play together on the pitch.

“I’ve played at this level a few times for different clubs and it hasn’t quite worked out for one reason or another, but the Gaffer believes in me here and plays a style of football that allows me to play to the best of my ability, so it all bodes well.

“Yes, it’s been a dream start, but there’s a long way to go and we just have to tick one game off at a time, make sure we do our jobs and see where it takes us.

“From a personal point of view, I’ve not set specific targets, but scoring and assisting is always my aim and helping this club get promotion is what I ultimately want to do.

“I am looking forward to Saturday’s game. It will be a tough one against one of the fancied sides at this level, but we go into it with confidence high after the start we have made.”

Simpson and his team-mates lock horns with Walton & Hersham on Saturday in what has been selected as our Premier South Game of the Day.
