There was a delayed start to their Pitching In Southern League Division One South campaign for Bashley due to drainage works on their pitch, but they made up for lost time last weekend by coming from behind to win 2-1 at Cinderford Town in their opening game.
It represented a winning start for new manager, Dave Lewis, following a summer of change at the club, which has seen his brother, Steve, take over as Chairman.
“We’ve had to wait a bit longer than we expected to get into action,” he said. “We’ll really start to see the benefits of the drainage work that has been carried out on the pitch in the autumn and winter months.
“It was nice to be able to get off to a winning start last weekend; it’s always good to get that first win out of the way and now we’ll be looking to build on it when we face our first home game on Saturday in what will be a tough test against Yate Town.
“I was pleased to see us stick to our principles last weekend and not let the fact that we fell behind affect us. It was a good response and the character of the lads to turn the scoreline around will stand us in good stead.
“Everyone played their part and we will use this as a platform to move forward.
“Saturday’s game will be a good gauge for us against a Yate side that I expect to be right up there challenging this season.”
Having played host to Yate Town on Saturday, Bashley then go to Thatcham Town on Bank Holiday Monday.
