Tom Annear celebrated reaching the milestone of 250 appearances for Falmouth Town by getting his name on the scoresheet for the first time in the Pitching In Southern League Division One South last weekend in the entertaining 3-3 draw with Willand Rovers.
The popular defender has been part of the journey for the Cornish club which saw them secure Step 4 status at the end of last season.
“I am so proud to have played so many games for such a prestigious club,” he told us. “My debut came in the South West Peninsula League, I think we played my former club, Newquay AFC, that day.
“It’s amazing how far we have come since then, the club is growing all of the time on and off the pitch and it’s set to continue. To be part of that is fantastic.
“The start of the season has been a bit slow regarding League games as we’ve only had two home games so far.
“It was frustrating to go out of the Emirates FA Cup, but full credit to Barnstaple Town as they were the better team on the day.
“Hopefully now we can get a good run of games under our belts and kick-on in the League rather than the stop-start nature of the opening month.
“This looks like being a highly competitive League based on results so far, with any team able to beat each other. You need to be on top form every game and with all of the travelling, it’s important that we get our home form right.
“Personally, I want to play as many games as possible and being a defender that takes set-pieces, it would be nice to pick up a few assists and goals, but the main focus for us first and foremost is to retain our place at this level.
“Once we feel more comfortable in our surroundings, then we can look to press on and build. Clean sheets were a big part of our season last year and it’s going to be the same again this time around, so I realise my responsibilities in that respect.”
Annear and his teammates hit the road on Saturday for Bashley, just one of two League games being played at the weekend.
