There has been a change at the Spalding United helm with Elliot Sandy, who guided the club to promotion as champions of the Northern Premier League Division One Midlands last season, being replaced by Jimmy Dean, a man who knows a thing or two about being successful at this level.
Dean was previously in charge of Scunthorpe United in the Vanarama National League North, but prior to that he oversaw Peterborough Sports’ meteoric rise, which included promotion via the play-offs from the Pitching In Southern League Premier Central into Step 2 at the end of the 2021/22 season.
“There is the nucleus of a good group of players here, from what I have seen so far,” Dean admitted. “They’ve been successful in winning the title last season and getting the club promotion, now it’s about them settling down and getting to grips with this new level.
“For me personally, it hasn’t taken long to get that buzz back again. There’s a job to be done here; the club finds itself at the wrong end of the early table, but we’ll take small steps to get to where we want to be.
“First and foremost, we have to be able to stablise ourselves; this is a tough League, so it won’t be easy, but we’ll roll our sleeves up and work hard.
“There is quality and ability here, there is no doubt about that, we just have to be able to bring it out and start building some momentum. Once we do that then the confidence and belief will start to build and grow.
“I’ve been able to bring in a few new faces straight away to freshen us up, players who I have worked with before and who I know will help to bring the best out of what we already have here. It’s up to these lads to show what they are capable of.”
Having seen his new club overcome the challenge of Matlock Town in the Emirates FA Cup following a replay, Dean will be in charge of his first League game at the weekend when the Tulips host AFC Sudbury.
