BASINGSTOKE TOWN | FIRED UP

D'Andre Brown is back from a long injury lay-off and looking to make his mark

There are three teams undefeated in the Pitching In Southern League Premier South so far this season.

Two of them went head-to-head on Saturday as Basingstoke Town recovered from going two goals down within the opening ten minutes to bring home a point from a 2-2 draw at high-flying AFC Totton.

The result leaves the Dragons with 12 points from their opening six games, a solid platform on which to build according to D’Andre Brown, who was back in action at the weekend having been ruled out for the past eight months through injury.

“We showed great character on Saturday,” Brown told us. “To go two goals down so early against such quality opposition, it would have been easy for us to have folded, but reacted really well and quickly turned things around.

“It wasn’t an easy thing to do, but we were able to show what we are about and in the end we were unlucky not to come home with all three points because we created some great opportunities to ourselves ahead against opponents who will be right up there pushing for promotion this season.

“This is part of what has been a bright start to the campaign for us. We’ve strengthened well over the summer and we’ve given ourselves a great platform to build upon with the start that we have made.

“I am excited to see what we can go on to achieve as a collective and now I am getting back to fitness, I am looking forward to being part of it and helping this club that means so much to me.

“It’s been a long and frustrating injury lay-off but everyone has been so supportive and helped me along the way.”

The youth team product is relishing the opportunity to get stuck into the Premier South.

“It’s going to be such a competitive season,” he added. “You only have to look through the results across the League so far to see what a mixed bag it’s been. There has been a lot of quality and talent added generally to this League over the summer.

“For myself, I just want to play as much as I can. I want to enjoy my football and keep improving. I’m not much of a stat chaser, to be honest, but to grab a few goals and assists will be nice to help the team push on.

“With the start we’ve had, it’s difficult not to set high expectations. We want to build on last season and challenge for those play-off places. I feel that we can more than compete and surprise a few people this year.”
