It’s Emirates FA Cup weekend as we reach the third round qualifying stage.
For Josh Coldicott-Stevens, he is looking to play his part in helping Royston Town overcome another opponent from the level above.
The 26 year-old was on target in a 2-1 victory at Vanarama National League South outfit, Aveley, in the previous round and now he has his sights set on Peterborough Sports of the Vanarama National League North.
“It was nice to get on the scoresheet and help us win at a higher level team in the last round,” he told us. “We played really well on the day and deserved the victory.
“It was a case of us growing into the game. I came off the bench at half-time and just tried to help the team continue to push on because we were starting to get on top towards the end of the first half.
“Fortunately I was able to chip in with a goal and a good performance. Hopefully I can do something similar this weekend in what will be another tough test for us, albeit we have home advantage this time.”
The Crows go into the tie on a three-game unbeaten run, although they let an early two-goal lead slip to draw 2-2 with Hitchin Town on Tuesday evening.
It leaves them with three wins, three draws and three defeats from their opening nine Pitching In Southern League Premier Central games.
“All things considered, we’ve had a good start to the season,” he added. “We lost a few players to the level above over the summer, but we’ve rebuilt well and the lads that have come in have all slotted into the group nicely.
“I feel that I have contributed on and off the pitch, so I am happy with the way things have started.
“Saturday’s game will be a good gauge for us and an opportunity to make further progress in the FA Cup.
“This season is every bit as tough as last year; although it’s nice to have a few shorter journeys with the likes of Spalding United, Bishop’s Stortford and Harborough Town coming into the division, but it’s just as competitive.
“We’re in that group of teams in the middle of the table right now, but our aim is to push on into the top half. We’ll take it one game at a time and see where it takes us. Personally I want to get at least as many goals as I got last season and improve my assists stats.”
We wish Royston Town and all of our Member Clubs all of the very best in their quest to make it through to the next round of the Emirates FA Cup this weekend.
