Stourbridge returned to winning ways at the weekend as they ended a run of three straight defeats by beating local rivals, Alvechurch, 2-1 to keep them in amongst the leading pack in the Pitching In Southern League Premier Central.
Weighing in with what proved to be the winning goal was Toumani Sidibe, one of a number of summer recruits.
“This was a much-needed win for us,” Sidibe told us. “It’s always nice to get on the scoresheet, it was a real team goal, but the main thing wasn’t who scored, it was all about getting those three points.
“We were a bit more like ourselves compared to the previous few games. There were good performances all over the pitch; we defended well when we had to and took our chances in front of goal.
“We started the season really well considering this is a completely new team. We’ve had a bit of a wobble, it happens, but we want to be able to push on again now.
“It’s still very early doors, but I am happy with my start. It was always going to take a bit of time to adapt to the team and a new environment, but this is a strong level and I am up against some top non-League players.
“There have been moments where I have been really happy and also tougher times, but it’s a case of being patient, working hard and taking the chances that come my way. Bagging the winner in the last game will do me no harm, so I am in a good place.
“This is a physical and extremely competitive League, there are also a lot of big local clubs which adds extra spice. Every game is tough; everyone is capable of beating each other.
“Our team spirit can give us an edge. The team is gelling together nicely, but we have to be able to do it on a consistent basis.
“Having a highly motivated management team will also drive us on to be successful. Collectively we want to be up there fighting for promotion come the end of the season. It’ll be a tough journey but we have an honest and solid group here and a coaching staff that knows what it takes to get out of this League.
“For me personally, as a striker you are judged on goals, so I just want to score as many as I can to help the team and enjoy my football.”
The Glassboys turn their attention to Isuzu FA Trophy matters on Saturday as they play host to Matlock Town.
