It’s been quite an introduction to life at Poole Town for Portuguese striker, Rafa Ramos.
The 29 year-old marked his debut for the club last month with a sublime volley to earn a draw with Walton & Hersham and then found the net at the weekend in their Isuzu FA Trophy encounter with one of his former clubs, Gosport Borough, which ended 1-1 but ultimately saw the Dolphins exit the competition on penalties, although, as you would expect, Ramos despatched his.
Having been a regular on the scoresheet for Gosport Borough last term, his summer switch to Vanarama National League South new-boys, Salisbury, didn’t quite work out so now he is back to terrorise Pitching In Southern League Premier South defences.
“The start that I have made here couldn’t have gone any better,” he admitted to us. “I think that I’ve settled in quickly because of how I have been welcomed here by everyone, from my team-mates, the Gaffer, supporters and everyone connected to the club.
“They have made it easy for me to come in and just enjoy my football; I am playing with freedom and a smile on my face, just as I like it!
“Three games and three goals, that’s the kind of start you dream of as a striker. There is so much quality around me that it makes it ten times easier to find the back of the net.
“I know only too well how tough this League is, though, but it’s such an exciting competition for everyone involved because of the way in which every team is capable of beating each other. If you don’t turn up on the day, you will get beat, regardless of who the opposition are.
“I can’t see any team running away with it; there are so many clubs who fancy their chances of getting into that top five and I am relishing the challenge.
“If I can score 20+ goals and contribute as much as possible, I will be happy. We are one of those teams whose focus is on making the play-offs and promotion, so as a collective we’ll be working hard to achieve that aim.”
A trip to Winchester City awaits Ramos and his team-mates on Tuesday evening before they head to Sholing on Saturday.
