HERTFORD TOWN | THE WAIT IS OVER

First clean sheet of the season for the Blues

After a 224-day wait, Pitching In Southern League Division One Central outfit, Hertford Town, finally kept a clean sheet at the weekend as they claimed a good 1-0 win on their travels at Welwyn Garden City.

For goalkeeper, James Callan, who arrived at the club in September, he was quick to share the plaudits with the defence in front of him.

“As a goalkeeper, it’s always nice to keep a clean sheet, but the plaudits should go to the back-line in front of me who were superb throughout,” he told his club’s media. “We’re working on things all of the time as a defensive unit and this is starting to show now.

“It was a difficult game played in difficult conditions; when you come to a place like this you have to fight for everything and we did that with a very positive performance.

“There were times towards the end when we had to hang on, but the support of our fans pulled us through and I would like to thank them too for the part that they played.”

Manager, Ben Herd, has praised the impact of the 20 year-old who joined the club in mid-September from Hitchin Town.

“When we were tested on Saturday, James and the back-line stood up to the task, especially in the closing stages of the game,” he said. “James has been an excellent signing for us; he’s a great character who has helped to bring the group together.

“He's probably the oldest 20 year-old I’ve ever met, but his performances since joining us have been excellent and will only get better.

“I am pleased that he was able to get his first clean sheet at the weekend and hopefully there are more to come.”

The Blues sit five places off the bottom of the table and look ahead to a home clash with Leighton Town on Saturday.
