DIDCOT TOWN | THE WRIGHT STUFF

Jenson Wright brace secures much-needed return to winning ways

There was late drama at Didcot Town on Tuesday evening as the home side grabbed a stoppage time goal to see them make a return to winning ways courtesy of a 3-2 victory over Falmouth Town in the Pitching In Southern League Division One South.

On the back of a home reverse at the hands of Shaftesbury at the weekend and a run of just one win from six League games, the Oxfordshire club fell behind just past the quarter-hour mark, but within two minutes Jenson Wright had bagged his first goal of the evening.

They went ahead through Luke Carnell on 26 minutes only for the visitors to level matters with less than ten minutes to go and it looked like the game was heading for a draw until Wright popped up again in the second minute of stoppage time to grab his sixth League goal of the season and secure the three points.

“My first goal was the better finish, but my second was the most important,” said Wright to his club’s media at the end of the game. “We certainly needed that win to give us some confidence and the hope now is that we can build upon it in our next game at the weekend.

“We’ve not had much luck go our way recently, but this could be the start of a change in fortunes and we can get ourselves into a positive run of results and moving up the table.

“It’s a case of making our own luck; this was the first time we’ve grabbed a winner so late on. It was a great feeling to see the ball go in. We put together a neat move in the build-up and it was nice that I was able to finish it off.

“That’s a good three points, which was the main thing tonight after recent results.”

A trip to Willand Rovers awaits on Saturday.
