Charlie Warren. Remember the name. He is the 17 year-old goalkeeper who is lighting up the Pitching In Southern League Division One Central having joined Barton Rovers on a work experience loan from FA Premier League club, Tottenham Hotspur, where he is a second-year scholar having been at the club since the age of eight.
He has played his part in an impressive run of form for the Bedfordshire club who are now unbeaten in seven League games to move into the top five.
It’s a far cry from the start of the season when they found themselves at the bottom of the table, but Warren and his team-mates are playing with plenty of confidence and belief that has seen them accumulate 17 points from 21 and also keep three clean sheets in their last four outings.
Warren’s mature and assured displays between the posts has seen his loan extended until the end of the year as he gains plenty of experience in competitive men’s football.
“From my first introduction to the players and staff and meeting the Chairman and volunteers, I've been made to feel so welcome here,” Warren told us. “I've been impressed by the quality of football in this League and my confidence is growing with each game.
“I am really enjoying my football and being involved in the battle for points week in, week out. This loan move is benefitting everyone involved; it’s great for young players like myself to be able to come and experience it as part of our football education.
“I’m being well looked after here and can’t thank the club enough for this opportunity. There is a busy schedule ahead in the run-up to the end of the year, so it’s a chance to get more minutes under my belt and hopefully help the club continue to build momentum and challenge at the top end of the table.”
