Following successive 3-1 defeats in their previous two games, St. Ives Town were able to respond with a 3-1 triumph of their own at the weekend as Will Glennon’s hat-trick earned them victory over Hitchin Town.
It was a result that moved them just inside the top ten in the Pitching In Southern League Premier Central table.
The talented Glennon made the switch to the Cambridgeshire club in October from League rivals, Stamford AFC, as he searched for regular game time and he has made a smooth transition into life at his new club, culminating in Saturday’s treble.
“I needed to be getting more game time and moving here offered me that at a good club,” he said. “I have settled in well and to get a hat-trick at the weekend was amazing as they don’t come around all that often.
“The most important thing, though, was that we were able to get back into winning ways. Hopefully it can lead to a bit of a run now and we can strengthen our position within the top ten.
“We’re aiming to be as high as we possibly can in what is a tough and competitive League. When we win it’s just the best feeling and we want more!”
The 21 year-old has not only brought with him experience at this level, but also versatility which sees him equally as adept in the centre of midfield, where he played on Saturday, as he is in the heart of the back-line.
“I enjoy both positions,” he added. “But being in midfield allows me to get on the ball and get forward, which was the case in the last game.
“To be honest, I just enjoy being out there playing and will play wherever I’m asked to and give it my all each and every time.”
A trip to Stratford Town is next on the agenda at the weekend.
