CHERTSEY TOWN | PRIDE FOR HARPER

Isuzu FA Trophy progress for The Curfews

There was Isuzu FA Trophy joy for Chertsey Town on Wednesday evening as they beat Dagenham & Redbridge to take their place in the fourth round of the competition.

It comes on the back of a solid start to their first season in the Pitching In Southern League Premier South where they sit in eighth place in the table as we approach the busy festive period.

Manager, Mark Harper has expressed his pride at the progress of his ever-evolving team.

“It was a great performance on Wednesday evening,” he told us. “Everyone played their part and stepped up, both on and off the pitch.

“We deserved the victory and I am so proud of what we have all achieved together. The next round is on the first weekend of January, but there is a lot of football to be played before then.

“We’ve settled in very well to life in the Southern League, in my opinion. There’s an obvious step up in quality, but overall we’ve applied ourselves well and we’re enjoying every minute, which is being reflected in our performances.

“We’re not underestimating any team within the division as we’ve already seen there’s some experienced clubs that can punish you if you’re not on it.

“It’s certainly an unforgiving League; when you make a mistake you get punished for it, almost every time!

“The togetherness of this group is fantastic and it will stand us in good stead for the challenges ahead.

“The club’s ambition has always been to be competitive at this level, but personally I’ve always had the drive to be successful so we will be pushing as hard as possible to be as high in the table as possible.

“That said, there are some very good clubs at this level with greater expectation that us but we will give it a go!”

A trip to Gloucester City is on the agenda for this weekend.

Meanwhile an away tie at Aldershot Town awaits in the fourth round of the Isuzu FA Trophy on Saturday, January 4th.
Also still in the competition, Gosport Borough will host Torquay United and there is also a home tie for Biggleswade Town against Oxford City.
