SPALDING UNITED | TULIPS IN BLOOM

Skipper on the 'good buzz around the place'

A run of just one defeat from their last six games sees Spalding United step into Christmas on a positive note.

The Tulips were promoted into the Pitching In Southern League Premier Central for this season and are now starting to find their feet at this level.

Defender, Connor Brown, has been a key arrival earlier in the campaign as he brings plenty of higher level experience and know-how gained from spells with the likes of Sheffield United, Oldham Athletic, York City and Barrow.

“The mood in the camp is very positive,” the skipper told us after helping his side share the spoils with League leaders, Kettering Town, at the weekend. “There’s a good buzz around the place, which always helps when you’re on a good run of form.

“We put in a good team performance on Saturday against Kettering. We know that we weren’t at our best, but we all put a shift in to get what was a deserved point in the end against the leaders.

“We’re looking like a team that works for each other and is hard to beat, as our recent record indicates.

“It’s good to be able to take this kind of form into what is such a busy time of the season. The games are non-stop and it’s not easy both physically or mentally as the games come every couple of days.

“This is a good standard of football; there are some strong teams at this level and I am enjoying the challenge.

“Being a new team in this League, it’s all about taking it game-by-game and making sure we stay consistent and keep improving gradually.

“We don’t want to run before we can walk, but the signs are that we’re moving in the right direction and we’ll see where it takes us.

“Since the Gaffer [Jimmy Dean] came in earlier in the season, you can see the improvements and the points we’ve picked up.”

After heading to Stamford AFC on Boxing Day, they entertain Bromsgrove Sporting on December 28th and then St. Ives Town on New Year’s Day before rounding the festive season off with a trip to Bedford Town on January 4th.
