2025 has started off on the right foot for Leighton Town.
The Pitching In Southern League Division One Central outfit returned to action for the first time in 11 days on New Year’s Day and ran out convincing 5-1 victors at Enfield.
Godlove Oppong wasted little time in opening the scoring with a goal after just five minutes and went on to complete his hat-trick with two late strikes.
“It was a solid effort from everyone,” Oppong told us. “We executed our game plan effectively and showed great team work, which was key to such a commanding win.
“Of course to get a hat-trick was nice and something to be proud of, but the main thing was to get the victory.
“Building on this momentum is now crucial as we head into the second half of the season. We want to be able to maintain this form and push to achieve our objectives.
“I want to see my game continue to improve throughout the year ahead so that I can continue making a contribution to help us get to where we want to be.
“There is a lot of potential in the squad, that has been evident since I arrived here in November. It’s a learning experience for us but definite progress is being made and evidence of that was seen in our last performance.
“This is such a competitive League; there are some strong teams which makes it both challenging and exciting, but there is no reason why we can’t achieve things. We’ve certainly started 2025 as we mean to go on!”
Next up for Oppong and his team-mates is a home encounter with a Flackwell Heath outfit that sit third in the table.
