HUNGERFORD TOWN | REASONS TO BE CHEERFUL

Landmark for Rhys Tyler amidst unbeaten run

There’s plenty to celebrate and enjoy at Hungerford Town right now.

The Pitching In Southern League Premier South club are currently on a five-game unbeaten League run since the turn of the year, which saw them secure the PST Sport Club of the Month accolade for January 2025.

Four of those five games have ended in victory, including Saturday’s 1-0 home triumph over Havant & Waterlooville, a result which leaves them in the middle of the table ahead of Tuesday evening’s visit of Chertsey Town.

Amongst this, reliable full-back, Rhys Tyler, celebrated his 300th appearances for the club on Saturday. The former Reading youngster originally joined the Crusaders ahead of the 2015/16 season following a spell in German football and whilst he had a couple of seasons away in between, he has given sterling service to the club over the past decade.

“I am really happy to have reached this landmark,” he told his club’s media. “To mark it with a win to add to the unbeaten run that we’re on was perfect.

“It was an extremely hard-fought battle on Saturday; it turned into a bit of a scrap with the conditions, but we don’t mind that and we’ve started to show that we are able to find a way to win.

“We’ve had a great start to the New Year; everything is starting to come together nicely. We changed our formation not too long ago and now we’ve been able to find a way to play that suits us and is delivering results.

“Everyone is buying into the system and that is showing through in the performances that we’ve put in recently and the work-rate that has gone into each game.

“It was nice to get some recognition with the Club of the Month award and our focus is on continuing it throughout February and see where it takes us.

“I’ve got some brilliant memories from over the years here. That promotion season of 2015/16 stands out; to win the play-off game here in front of a rocking Bulpit was special and now we want to get the place rocking again for the remainder of this season.”
