BIGGLESWADE TOWN | FIGHTING SPIRIT

Waders keen to build on away point

Despite sitting at the foot of the Pitching In Southern League Premier Central table, Biggleswade Town came within minutes of pulling off victory at leaders, AFC Telford United, on Tuesday evening.

A first half strike from Daniel Izekor gave them the lead, which they were able to hold on to until the closing stages of the game to deny them what would have been only a third League triumph of the campaign following promotion at the end of last term.

But goalscorer Izekor, who weighed in with his eighth League strike of the season, believes that the battling qualities they displayed at the New Bucks Head will stand them in good stead for the challenges which lie ahead as they look to preserve the Step 3 status that they worked so hard to achieve.

“We need to take the qualities that we showed on Tuesday with us into the games that lie ahead,” Izekor told us. “We know that we have plenty of quality here and even though we couldn’t quite see it out at AFC Telford, we have to take confidence and belief from the result.

“Hopefully this point can be the catalyst we need to get ourselves into a run of results and build some momentum.

“We know what we have to do; we’ve set the standard. The togetherness that we have is going to be so important and we have to keep on fighting and believing if we are to stand any chance of achieving our goals.

"It’s a tough ask, we know that, but whilst its possible, we have to give it absolutely everything we’ve got.

“For me personally I want to keep my performance levels high week in, week out and contribute with as many goals as I can to help the team.

“This is a strong League, it’s my first time playing at this level and I just love the competitive nature. I am enjoying the challenge of pitting my wits against ex-pros and the quality that exists within this League.

“I have learned a lot from it so far and the experience can only help me for my future. My aim is to keep improving and give my all to the club and see where it takes us.”

A home game against Stourbridge is coming up on Saturday.
