BEACONSFIELD TOWN | MAKING MOVES

The Division One Central club are starting to move in the right direction

It’s fair to say that it has been a season of transition for Beaconsfield Town.

Relegated at the end of last term from the Premier South, they began life in the Pitching In Southern League Division One Central this term with a completely new look and youthful team.

Further change came during the autumn when manager, Garry Haylock, decided to step down and was replaced by his assistant, Sam Togwell.

It’s only now, as we enter the second half of the season, that the team is started to get into its stride, with Saturday’s 3-1 victory over Hertford Town making it four League games unbeaten as well as victory over Wycombe Wanderers in the quarter-final of the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup last month.

“We’ve been improving game-by-game,” said Manuchim Oke-William, a scorer in each of the last two games. “You can really feel the confidence growing within the squad. There’s real belief within the group and that showed in our performance at the weekend.

“There’s a feel-good factor around the place now and we just want to keep this momentum going for as long as we can.

“It’s always nice to get my name on the scoresheet, particularly when the team wins, as was the case on Saturday. My confidence has been given a massive boost, just like everyone around me.

“We’ve had to work hard this season but progress has been made and now we’re starting to see the benefits of the work we’ve done.

“As a team we always knew that we had the quality to match anyone in this League, things just weren’t clicking into place.

“It’s been a case of sticking to the process and continuing to believe; people often talk about how important confidence and momentum is in football and we are certainly seeing that here.

“This is such a competitive League with a lot of strong teams and so much talent. It’s no surprise to see players getting moves higher up the ladder from this League recently.

“Every game is a challenge and you can’t afford to take any opponent lightly. It means that standards have to be kept consistently high in order to get the right results and we’ve started to do that in recent weeks.

“We’re gradually moving up the table and hopefully this will continue in the weeks ahead. I just want to keep contributing with goals and good performances so we can finish as high up the table as possible.”

The Rams are at North Leigh on Saturday as they look to extend their current unbeaten run.
