The Cornish bragging rights went the way of Mousehole on Tuesday evening as they secured a commanding 4-0 victory over Helston Athletic to strengthen their position within the top five of the Pitching In Southern League Division One South.
A brace apiece from Hayden Turner and Oscar Massey saw the Seagulls make it four League games without defeat.
For front-man Massey, it’s been a positive start to life at Interiora Parc following his switch from rivals, Falmouth Town, in December.
“I’m loving it here,” he told us with a broad smile. “It’s a brilliant club with a lot of ambition to go higher, which really appeals to me.
“Tuesday’s game had the extra excitement of it being a local derby, so first and foremost to come out of it with three points was fantastic and the fact that I was able to score two goals was an added bonus. That’s four in the last three games for me now, so I am very pleased!
“The team played brilliantly and, to be fair, we dominated the game. We played the conditions well and I am really proud of the lads. This is a tough old League, but we’ve put ourselves into a strong position.
“There are so many teams fighting to get into the top five and so many teams fighting hard to avoid being in the bottom four, so it makes every game extremely competitive and you have to be on top of your game week in, week out.
“It’s exciting, though, and I’m really looking forward to the run-in to the end of the season. We’re going to enjoy it and give it everything we’ve got.
“Our aim is to finish as high up the table as we possibly can, so to do that we have to roll our sleeves up and keep working hard. Personally I’ll be looking to help the team in any way I can to win football matches, be that by scoring goals or providing assists.
“I just want to help the club push on from here and be part of the exciting journey that lies ahead.”
Mousehole head into Devon at the weekend as they take on one of those sides who are looking to escape the bottom four, Tavistock AFC.
