REVIEW | TUESDAY ACTION

A round-up of the action

There was action across all four of our divisions on Tuesday evening.

A brace from the evergreen Scott Rendell helped AFC Totton on their way to a 3-1 victory over Havant & Waterlooville in the Pitching In Southern League Premier South. Ben Seymour added a third goal in stoppage time before Harvey Laidlow hit a consolation for the visitors right at the death.

Walton & Hersham came from behind to win 2-1 at Sholing. A goal just before the quarter-hour mark from Michael Folivi put the hosts ahead only for Kai Jennings and Johl Powell to turn things round with goals in quick succession midway through the first half.

A late winner from Will Fletcher gave Wimborne Town three big points against local rivals, Poole Town, in front of a packed house. It was a result which pulled the hosts away from the drop zone and plunged the visitors in to it.

The other two games ended all square as a late leveller from Ik Hill gave Winchester City a share of the spoils from their trip to Taunton Town, for whom Nick Grimes opened the scoring with just over 20 minutes to go.

Meanwhile it was goalless between Frome Town and Gosport Borough.

Over in the Pitching In Southern League Premier Central, Bishop’s Stortford were the only winners from the three games that were played as they triumphed 2-0 against Spalding United with Man of the Match Rashawn Scott and Luka Chalwell getting the goals in each half.

Biggleswade Town were denied another victory in the closing stages of their home game against AFC Sudbury. Callum Wilson gave the hosts the lead on the quarter-hour mark only for it to be cancelled out by Liam Pearce in the final minute.

The encounter between Banbury United and Alvechurch ended in a goalless stalemate.

Top honours in the Pitching In Southern League Division One South go to Westbury United who went to Thatcham Town and came home 5-1 victors following an impressive away day display. Jack Witcombe gave them an early lead, which was cancelled out by their former player, Harvey Flippance. However, Witcombe added another on 41 minutes and then a couple of minutes later, Ryan Bole added a third. The second half started with Ed Butcher carving open the home defence to grab a fourth and then Bevan Cross rounded things off in stoppage time at the end.

There was also away joy for Cribbs as they won 2-0 at Shaftesbury with goals from Bailey Croome and George Kellow in each half.

The other game ended in a 0-0 draw between Didcot Town and Bashley.

The Pitching In Southern League Division One Central saw an entertaining encounter between Leighton Town and Flackwell Heath, which ended in a 3-2 success for the hosts. All five goals came in the opening period as Kyal Williams fired the home team in front early on and then Godlove Oppong doubled the advantage. A penalty from Wiktor Makowski reduced the arrears as the interval approached and it was the same player who levelled matters on the stroke of half-time only for Lynton Goss to put the hosts back in front in first half stoppage time.

There was an away win for Barton Rovers as Taylor Rhiney’s first half goal was enough to see off the challenge of Leverstock Green. Also winning on their travels were Stotfold who came home from North Leigh with a 3-2 triumph. Codi-Lee Spavins gave the visitors an early lead which was cancelled out within minutes by Harlee Vozza. A goal midway through the first half by Aaron Diviney restored the away team’s lead but parity was restored on the hour by Oluwapelumi Maxwell. What proved to be the winner came from Spavins with ten minutes left on the clock.

The final game saw Thame United beat Kings Langley 3-1. Brayden Daniel set the home team on their way only for Kieran Gauthier to level just before half-time. Second half strikes from Gregory Hackett and Dan West saw the hosts to victory.
