NAME: Ryan Atkins
AGE: 28
CLUB: Frome Town
HOW LONG HAVE YOU SUPPORTED YOUR CLUB AND HOW DID YOUR SUPPORT FIRST BEGIN? I am going into my fourth season involved with Frome Town. My first game was in December 2021, just after Christmas, to watch a game against Melksham Town. We drew 3-3 with Alex Hallett scoring a last gasp equaliser for us. I then started talking to another fan and we ended up hosting the Robin's Nest radio show together on Frome FM, where we have interviewed Danny Greaves, the manager and several players, past and present. I now also help in the Supporters Club on home matchdays and go to most away games.
HOW WOULD YOU ASSESS THE 2024/25 SEASON FOR YOUR CLUB? It was a very tough season. We got promoted from Division One South in 2023/24 and after winning the first game of the season, we then struggled for the next 18 games, which meant we set ourselves a very hard challenge to stay up. There were a few positives; like the League double over Plymouth Parkway without conceding a goal to them. We also had a Somerset Cup run to the final, which we unfortunately lost to Weston Super Mare.
We lost a lot of goals before the season started with Kane Simpson leaving for Methyr Town and Sam Meakes going to St. Albans City. We also lost Jon Davies, Reece Rusher and Matt Smith to season-ending injuries in the first few months. I feel like we didn't replace the goals properly; strikers are very hard to find at this level.
WHO WAS YOUR CLUB’S BEST PLAYER IN 2024/25 AND WHY? For me Warren Maidment was our best player of the 2024/25 season. Warren is the one of the first players I always look for on the team sheet. I remember one game where he made two goal-saving clearances. I am pleased that he has decided to extend his stay with us. I also think that Ethan Vaughan, Sam Teale, Albie Hopkins, Kyle Phillips and Pierce Mitchell deserve mentions here too.
WHO WERE THE BEST OPPOSING TEAM IN 2024/25? I would have to say Methyr Town. They were worthy winners of the Premier South title.
WHO WAS THE BEST OPPOSING PLAYER IN 2024/25? Ethan Taylor. He's a player we've known well from when we played AFC Totton in previous seasons, but, for me, he's so skilful and gets a lot of goals. He deserves to move up the levels.
FAVOURITE AWAY GROUND AND WHY? I quite liked the layout at Hanwell Town. It was quite a nice set-up with a Bus selling drinks, which I thought was quite cool. I also liked the Gloucester City stadium.
MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT IN 2024/25? Definitely that League double over Plymouth Parkway. We scored some great goals, including a wonder goal from Ethan Vaughan in the game at Badgers Hill on Boxing Day.
HOPES FOR 2025/26? I hope we can bounce back up to Premier South at our first attempt. We didn't lose many games by big margins last season and were rarely out-played. Hopefully if we do come straight back up we can do it as Champions as I don’t think that I could take the stress of the play-offs again!
