WIMBORNE TOWN | CAPTAIN MARVEL

Starring role for Sam Jackson

There has been plenty of progression at Wimborne Town over the past two seasons.

After taking the Division One South title at the end of the 2023/24 season, they went on to secure a tenth place finish in the Pitching In Southern League Premier South at the end of the campaign just gone.

Leading by example throughout this period has been skipper, Sam Jackson. He was virtually ever-present again in 2024/25, chalking up 45 appearances and deservedly picking up the Supporters’ Player of the Season award.

“The last two seasons have been the most enjoyable of my career so far,” he told us. “This club means so much to me and there is nowhere else I’d rather play my football, that’s why the decision to sign a new deal here was so quick and easy.

“I can’t wait for what’s ahead for myself and the club. The season just gone was one of real growth; as a team we’ve shown fantastic character, particularly after a rough start, and personally I’ve learned a lot along the way and feel that I have made solid progress, which will stand me in good stead for the challenges ahead.

“To be part of helping the club achieve its highest points tally at this level is very special. We’ve enjoyed some memorable moments and the supporters have been absolutely brilliant all season. To average over 700 and have occasions such as the home victory over Poole Town, playing front of over 2,000 people just shows the potential this club has.

“If we’re being totally honest, the Premier South was tougher than we expected and that’s probably why we made such a slow start, but to go on and finish just inside the top ten is a real credit to all involved.

“Every game is a battle at this level and that’s what makes it so exciting and it’s also what makes every victory that much more special as you are competing against top players week in, week out.

“I just keep pushing myself all of the time. I want to stay consistent and be able to contribute more and more to the team. As a group our sights are now set on building on what we have achieved; we’ve shown that we can compete with anyone in this League and that has given us added confidence.

“Now the challenge is to get into that leading pack and continue to grow on and off the pitch. We’ve certainly got the personnel here to be able to do that and, of course, the fans also have a massive role to play.

“These are exciting times for the club and I am delighted to have signed a new contract to be part of it all.”
