Premier South club host national teams ahead of Unity Cup

There was plenty of international talent on display at Hanwell Town’s Oliver Connell & Son Community Stadium earlier this month.

The Pitching In Southern League Premier South club played host to the national teams of Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago, Ghana and Nigeria as they participated in the 2025 Unity Cup, an international tournament which celebrates African and Caribbean football heritage, and took place at Brentford FC's Gtech Stadium.

Each of the nations used Hanwell Town as their training base with former England manager, Steve McClaren, in charge of a Jamaica team that included numerous UK-based players, whilst the likes of Crystal Palace’s Rio Cardines (Trinidad & Tobago), Jordan Ayew of Leicester City (Ghana), West Bromwich Albion’s Semi Ajayi (Nigeria) and Samuel Chukwueze of AC Milan (Nigeria) were also involved.

“It was an absolute privilege to be chosen to host all of the competing teams in the Unity Cup,” said Hanwell Town Chief Executive Officer, Nigel Hunt. “It demonstrates the growing reputation that our club has internationally in terms of training facilities.

“We enjoyed hosting them all whilst continuing to raise the profile and reputation of Hanwell Town FC and we look forward to supporting future international fixtures here.”

Nigeria went on to win the Unity Cup following a 5-4 penalty shoot-out victory over Jamaica in the final after the game had ended 2-2.
