STAMFORD AFC | BREATH OF FRESH AIR

The experienced Elliott Durrell is excited by the campaign ahead

There is a strong squad coming together at Stamford AFC as they look to take the next step having just missed out on the play-offs at the end of each of the last two seasons in the Pitching In Southern League Premier Central.

A whole host of new signings have been made by manager, Graham Drury, to go alongside a core who did so well for the club last season as they found themselves challenging amongst the leading pack and finishing in the club's highest-ever position at this level.

One such player who has committed for the campaign ahead and can draw upon plenty of higher level experience is Elliott Durrell.

“I’m absolutely delighted to extend my stay at the club into the new season,” he told us. “Having joined late last season, I wasn’t sure what the outcome would be, but being here has been a breath of fresh air.

“The Gaffer and his staff have been brilliant with me since the minute I arrived and they’ve been able to put together a good group of players who want to work hard for each other as well as being great people.

“The signings that have been made so far this summer are really impressive and will further strengthen what was already a strong group, so it’s exciting to see what we can go on to achieve together.

“I think that the calibre of player we have been able to bring in gives an indication of where the club is at and where we want to go.

“It’s an exciting time to be involved with the club. From a personal point of view, I’m coming towards the latter stages of my playing career but I am feeling good and want to be able to add one more promotion to my CV! I am also looking to use my experience to help those around me and help us continue to improve as a team.

“Last season was the first time I’d played in the Premier Central for some time and it’s relentless; every week you know you’ve been in a game regardless of the opposition. It’s a really competitive League, but having just missed out on the play-offs last season, we’re going to be looking to hit the ground running this time around and give ourselves a base from which to build.

“Hopefully I can build on my form from the closing stages of last season. I want to be playing as much as I can and contributing goals and assists.

“That said, as you get older it’s also important to be able to have an impact on the younger members of the group and drive standards off the field too. I’ll be looking to contribute in any way I can for the good of the club.

“Last season the club finished in its highest-ever position. It was disappointing to just miss out on the play-offs but at the same time it was an achievement and now the focus is set on improving on that and seeing where it takes us.”
