As Brixham AFC eagerly await the release of the 2025/26 fixtures on Friday lunchtime, they have added some Southern League experience to their ranks as they prepare for life in Step 4 for the first-ever time.
Former Yeovil Town scholar, Mitch McCann, has previously appeared at this level for the likes of Willand Rovers, Cinderford Town, Frome Town and Shaftesbury for a spell last season. Now he is looking forward to becoming a driving force for the Devon outfit as they get ready to tackle the Pitching In Southern League Division One South.
“I’m really pleased that the Gaffers here have put their trust in me,” McCann told us. “These are exciting times for the club; being local I have watched their recent progress and I am delighted to now be part of the journey.
“I’ve been involved with a few clubs in the Southern League alongside my studies, so I feel that I will bring a bit of experience at this level to the group. As a player I have a physical presence and a strong desire to win. I have also been known to contribute the odd goal now and then!
“The fixtures are out on Friday and I’m just buzzing to get going. The club will be making history and so much hard work is going on behind-the-scenes to ensure that we can make an impact.
“It’s going to be a tough season, as it always is in this League. There is plenty of quality throughout each team and there are no easy games, that’s for sure!
“As I say, the lads have been working hard in preparation. We started in early June and it’s been pretty intense both in terms of training and the schedule of matches as we get vital minutes into our legs and gel as a team with a number of new faces coming in.
“Things are moving in the right direction and I am looking forward to getting as much football as possible and establishing myself here.
“I want to be playing with a smile on my face and I feel that I can do that here. There’s a real hunger within the club for the progress to continue. A winning mentality has been developed here over the past few seasons and long may that continue.
“We’ll be doing all we can to take this club forward and win as many games as we can.”
