After 280 days on the sidelines, George Morrall made his return to action at the weekend and now he is eager to play his part in Hitchin Town’s attempts to bounce back from relegation at the first attempt.
Morrall started last term well, including being named as September’s Player of the Month by the Canaries’ supporters, only for his campaign to come to a shuddering halt at the beginning of December when he tore his lateral meniscus.
“It was a difficult time and there were some tough days,” he admitted to us. “There were times when I would think to myself; ‘is it even all worth it’, but I had a great surgeon and the physio really helped me every step of the way, so I am extremely grateful to everyone who has helped me get to this point.
“It felt good to be back on the pitch at the weekend, even if it was for only just over ten minutes; after my first non-contact session with the boys, I got the buzz back again and that has helped to drive me on.
“There’s no better time to be back with the new season almost upon us. I was pleased with the start I made to last season and now I’m more determined than ever to pick up where I left off and really make an impact.
“The Pitching In Southern League Division One Central will provide a new challenge; there’ll be plenty of new grounds for me to visit over the campaign ahead and I am looking forward to getting stuck into the task of helping the club try to bounce back straight away having suffered relegation.
“There’s a clear aim for us as a team; we’ve been able to add plenty of quality to the group over the summer and I am excited to be part of it all.
“I have set myself high targets in terms of goals and assists being an attacking midfielder and I will be doing all I can to reach them. Being ruled out for so long certainly makes you appreciate things that bit more and I am hoping that 2025/26 can be a season to remember for all of the right reasons for myself and the team.
“The campaign ahead will be a little bit of a step into the unknown; I had a loan spell at this level with Bedford Town a few seasons ago, but that's it really. I am excited for the journey ahead and will be looking to play my part."
