Stotfold finally secured their first win of the season in the Pitching In Southern League Division One Central last weekend, at the fifth time of asking.
Their 2-0 victory over Marlow saw them get their first points on the board and was richly deserved according to Henry Snee, who opened the scoring early in the second half.
“We’ve been knocking on the door for a few weeks now, so to finally get a winning result was a big relief to us all,” Snee told us. “Everything came together on Saturday and it was a deserved victory in the end.
“It’s always a great feeling to score, but Saturday’s goal felt particularly important as it set us on our way and we were able to get the job done.
“Personally I am playing with plenty of confidence right now. Last season was a write-off for me due to injury, but I am gradually getting back to the levels that I know I’m capable of and I just want to be able to help the team kick-on from here.
“As a team it’s taken us a while to settle and get used to the demands of this level as we have a lot of younger players who are just breaking into senior football and learning about what it takes.
“They are improving with each game we play and that only bodes well for what’s ahead. Our results over the opening five games haven’t really reflected where we’re at, so hopefully Saturday’s win can take us forward.
“We’ve looked sharp in attack; we’ve got some talented attacking players here and now our work to strength us defensive is starting to show, which is key.
“This League has always been competitive and I am relishing the challenge ahead. This season for me is all about playing regularly and avoiding the injury set-backs that hit me hard last time out.
“Hopefully this is now the start of an upturn in our fortunes.”
