There was a dramatic finish to Mousehole AFC’s first Saturday home game of the season in the Pitching In Southern League Division One South at the weekend.
Finding themselves a goal down at the hands of Larkhall Athletic going into the final quarter-of-an-hour, experienced goal-getter, Mark Goldsworthy, was able to level the scores before summer signing, Liam Prynn, hit the winner deep into stoppage time at the end.
It saw the Cornish outfit secure their third League win of the season from five games.
“I think we showed real character on Saturday,” said defender, Max Cook, who joined the club ahead of the current campaign. “In terms of our performance, we have a few more gears left to go, but we were able to find a way to win and kept going until the very end.
“There’s nothing better than a winner with the last kick of the game and it was a well-taken finish from Prynny.
“The celebrations that followed the goal shows how much it meant to us and we need to use the confidence from this to be able to really kick-on now and after a stop-start month, we want to be able to put a run of results together.
“We’re back at home on Tuesday against Tavistock AFC, so it gives us another opportunity to add to our points tally and pick up from where we left off at the weekend.
“We’ve been able to put in a few good performances so far this season, whilst there have been some displays that have given us food for thought, which we can learn from.
“I certainly think that we are getting there now in terms of how we want to play and building relationships within the group, across the pitch. This is always going to be the case when so many new faces come in, but we’re enjoying it and there’s a determined to push things forward.
“Now is the time to get a bit of a run together and make our mark amongst the leading pack. I know how disappointed everyone at the club was to just miss out on the play-offs at the end of last season, so we’re using that as extra fuel for our challenge this time around.”
