With two wins from their opening eight Pitching In Southern League Division One South games, Melksham Town have taken the decision to relieve manager, Mark Collier, of his duties.
The decision came in the wake of a home reverse at the hands of Didcot Town on Monday evening, a result which leaves the club in the lower half of the early League table.
“We have made the decision as the club looks to take a new direction and build for the future,” said a Club Statement. “Mark’s efforts on and off the pitch have been greatly appreciated by the board, players and supporters alike and we wish him well in his future career.”
There was plenty of optimism around the Wiltshire outfit during the summer on the back of an eighth-place berth at the end of last term as they looked to step up their challenge for a place in the play-offs this time around.
“We know that we can do much better,” admitted Devanti McInerney. “After a solid start to the season, injuries have caught up with us quicker than we would have liked.
“Football is a results-driven business, we all know that only too well, and our recent results haven’t been good enough.
“The Gaffer has paid the price and as players, we have to get back to the levels that we know we are capable of.
“We have to remain positive and believe in ourselves so that we can start building some momentum and move in the right direction with our heads held high.
“It’s all about finding a level of consistency, both individually and collectively, and that is what we are working hard to do.
“I want to be able to help the team win games, whilst adding to my personal goals and assists tally. I am doing all I can to push myself to the next level and deliver the kind of displays that will entertain the fans and get the team moving towards where we want to be.
“We’ve got plenty of quality within the group and we need to be able to show this to the new manager so that he has a solid base on which to build from.”
The club has placed David Thompson and Luke Ballinger into interim charge of the team.
