They say that momentum is a big thing in football. Marlow have plenty of it at the moment as they celebrated their third straight win at the weekend with an impressive 3-1 triumph over a Barton Rovers outfit who sit within the leading pack.
Doing his bit for the team was Jack Empson who moved from his usual position at the heart of the back-line to fill in at right-back with much aplomb.
“It was a great win for us against strong opponents,” he told us. “It was a nice extra challenge for me playing in a different position, but I enjoyed it and was happy with my performance.
“We had a few lads missing, which made the victory even more sweeter and it definitely shows the quality we have here, especially going forward.
“Creating chances and scoring goals hasn’t been a problem so far this season. We’ve conceded too many, so we know that if we can tighten things up in this respect, we’ll have a chance of winning ant game with the talent we have going forward.
“The defensive side of our game is something that we have been working hard to rectify and this is starting to show through now in our performances.
“It gives us an opportunity to start climbing the table and get a bit of momentum, which is so important.
“It’s been a funny old season for me so far having moved to the club from Northwood, but things are starting to click into place and I have been happy with my performances so far and hope to be able to build on them in the battles that lie ahead.
“The League is very open this season; you can see that from the results each week. I think the play-off positions are there for the taking from anyone who can put a good run of results together and hopefully we can be one of the teams in there come the end of the season.
“We just want to keep working hard and adding to our points tally. I definitely think that we will surprise a few teams with the quality we have here despite our current position in the lower half of the table.”
A home game against Rayners Lane awaits on Tuesday evening before they head to MK Irish at the weekend.
