It was a wet one across our four divisions on Saturday afternoon, but nevertheless there was plenty of great action.
In the Premier South, leaders, Walton & Hersham were held to a goalless home draw by a resolute Hungerford Town, whilst second-place Gloucester City made their dominance tell with two second half goals to overcome the challenge of Chertsey Town.
A first half goal was enough to see Poole Town home to victory over Basingstoke Town, whilst Gosport Borough had to come from behind with two late goals to beat bottom club, Tiverton Town 3-2.
Making up the top five are Wimborne Town who were held to a draw at Hanwell Town, allowimg Farnham Town to get level with them on points as they won 3-1 at Uxbridge and in doing so leap-frogged their hosts.
Over in the Premier Central, leaders, Harborough Town, were made to work hard to maintain their unbeaten start as they won 2-1 at in-form Worcester City. Just behind them, Spalding United had a commanding 3-0 victory over a Needham Market outfit who have been steadily climbing the table in recent weeks.
Redditch United strengthened their position in the top five with a good 2-0 away triumph at St. Ives Town, they sit just above Real Bedford who had to settle for a point from their home encounter with Quorn as it finished 1-1.
Sitting fifth are Halesowen Town who enjoyed the bragging rights from their big local derby at Stourbridge. The Yeltz stormed into a three-goal half-time lead and whilst their hosts pulled one back early in the second half, they ran out worthy winners.
In Division One South, Portishead Town came out victorious in the top of the table clash with Winchester City. It proved to be an entertaining affair as the home side raced into a three-goal lead only for Winchester to pull two goals back in quick succession midway through the second period, but there was no further scoring as it ended 3-2.
There was a good 3-1 away win for Frome Town as they beat Swindon Supermarine, whilst Shaftesbury were denied victory at Mousehole AFC as the home side snatched a stoppage time leveller as it finished 1-1. Just below them, Malvern Town had an afternoon to forget with a 4-1 reverse at Bristol Manor Farm.
Sitting just outside the top five, Bishops Cleeve are a point behind with games in hand after they beat Brixham AFC 6-1. Stuart Fleetwood’s first game in charge of Melksham Town ended with them returning to winning ways as they beat Bideford AFC 2-0.
Leaders, Leighton Town, remain unbeaten in Division One Central as they breezed past bottom club, Enfield, by six goals to one. Second-place Hitchin Town saw their game at Aylesbury United abandoned due to a waterlogged pitch, with them leading 2-0.
There was a come-from-behind victory for Barton Rovers as they scored three second half goals to beat Northwood 3-1, whilst Hertford Town edged a seven-goal thriller against Beaconsfield Town as Lawrence Ajong hit a hat-trick. Biggleswade Town are fifth after beating Ware 2-1, they are now one point and one place above Biggleswade FC who saw their game at AFC Dunstable postponed.
We’ll have plenty of reaction to the action over the course of the week ahead.
